80 SUMMARY This position is considered part of the emergency essential personnel group and will be called out to the pumping station during emergencies.
The Maintenance Technician III works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, Public Works.
The Maintenance Technician III is responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled work for general maintenance of parish pumping station and special projects including public works projects that may use various types of parish equipment.
The work may be physically demanding in nature and sometimes involves the use of light mechanical equipment.
This position differs from that of the Maintenance Technician II in the ability to operate a wider range of equipment, is more experienced, and has the ability to perform more skilled work.
MAJOR DUTIES Checks and maintains fuel tank levels; adds fluid to engines and pumps This position is subject to large amounts of overtime.
It is essential that this position be available at all times during emergency events.
Works schedule consists of 10-hour shifts from Thursday - Thursday one week with the following Friday - Wednesday as days off Swaps fuel tanks as needed During pumping event, be able to start and engage pumps, sometimes at your discretion Keeps pump station clean and conducts housekeeping activities Depending on assignment, may operate all pieces of mechanical equipment that Maintenance Specialist I and II's operate and all track style equipment Depending on assignment, may operate and upkeep the pump station facilities monitoring waterway traffic Must perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as checking tires, gas, oil, and other lubricants; washing and cleaning; and ensuring that equipment is in proper working condition May perform various maintenance activities in and around parish facilities on parish grounds including cleaning grounds, picking up trash, cutting grass, weed eating, trimming trees, pressure washing, painting, and making minor repairs of fences, tables, benches, sidewalks, etc.
Any other duties as assigned MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education and
Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent and (4) years related experience is required LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, Louisiana state driver's license.
The incumbent is subject to pre-employment physical and drug screens with random drug testing thereafter.
The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier II position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to the traditional or emergency worksite.
Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include termination of employment.
